Micro internships, fundraisers in Ukraine and a scavenger hunt are things we recommend

We’ve combed through the campus calendars to bring you interesting events this week. Here are eight activities that might pique your interest.

UNL for UKRAINE fundraiser

April 27 | 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. | Yia Yia’s Pizza (1423 O Street)

Learn about Lincoln Ukraine and refugees while enjoying fellowship and pizza at this one-night event that benefits the Rotary Disaster Response Fund to support families in Ukraine.

Lunch & Learn Special Edition: Micro Internships

April 28 | 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. | Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center, Ubuntu Space

Career Services and OASIS introduce students to the idea of ​​”micro internships” and how these experiences relate to a field of study. Enjoy lunch and some learning in just one hour. RSVP is encouraged.


Lavender Graduation

April 28 | 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. | Wick Alumni Center

This evening, hosted by the LGBTQA+ Center, will celebrate incoming graduates and advocates, recognize scholarship recipients and showcase the Chancellor’s outstanding contributions to the GLBT Community Awards.

A coffee and dessert social will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. following the ceremony of the Chancellor’s Commission on the Status of Gender and Sexual Identity. The Social is a perfect opportunity for students, staff and faculty to forge meaningful connections with other members of the LGBTQA+ community.


Ohanami scavenger hunt

April 29 | 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center, Kawasaki Reading Room (Room 302)

Get a free lunch when you complete a special campus scavenger hunt to celebrate Arbor Day in Nebraska and Ohanami, Japan.


Registration deadline for the sand volleyball tournament and the golf tournament

April 28 | 5 p.m. | Campus Rec Center or Rec & Wellness Center

Thursday April 28th is the last day to register a team with your friends and classmates for both of these upcoming intramural activities.

The sand volleyball tournament will be played on May 8th at the Abel Sandoz volleyball courts. The leagues will be men’s, women’s and open. Entry fee is $25 per team.

The golf tournament will be held on May 1st at the Highlands Golf Course. The leagues will be men’s, women’s and open. Entry fee is $25 per player.


Study in Sheldon

April 27 | 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. | Sheldon Art Museum

The Great Hall of the Museum will be transformed into a Great Study Hall for one afternoon and evening. When you’re ready to take a break from your books, explore the galleries for inspiration and refuel with coffee from The Coffee House and snacks.

Advisors from the University of Nebraska Writing Center will be available from 2pm to 6pm to work with writers of all levels, from all disciplines and at all stages of the creative process.


Pop culture trivia

April 27 | 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. | Nebraska Union Ballroom

A campus activity for Sex Assault Awareness Month. Students play the classic trivia game by looking at examples from TV, movies, music and news related to sexual violence in the media. Prizes will be awarded and snacks and drinks will be provided.

It’s also Denim Day. Dress in denim and snap a photo at the Denim Day photo booth.


Weave storms!

May 2 | 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. | Love Library, Adele Coryell Hall Learning Commons

Engage in fascinating hands-on activities to relieve a little stress at this point in the semester. Stop by anytime during the two-hour period to help a collective group weave yarn into Tempestries, a visualization of climate data depicting daily maximum temperatures for a specific time period using data from the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). All supplies are provided. Learn more about the Tempestry project.

This event takes place in conjunction with the touring exhibition “Real People, Real Climate, Real Changes”.
